Dr Richard Carter

Doctor Richard Carter is a passionate rheumatologist practicing in George, in the beautiful garden route region of South Africa.

Dr Carter attained his pre-graduate medical degree at the University of the Free State in 2005. Thereafter he completed his internship and community service years in Pretoria and Rustenburg respectively.

Dr Carter then decided to pursue the amazing field of internal medicine by returning to his alma mater in Bloemfontein, completing his masters of medicine in internal medicine as well as attaining his certificate in internal medicine through the Fellowship of the College of Physicians of the Colleges (FCP) through the Colleges of Medicines of South Africa (CMSA). During this time he developed a love for the fascinating field of rheumatology and decided to further his studies by successfully completing his 2 year training with good success, attaining his certificate in rheumatology and thereby becoming a qualified rheumatologist. During this time he also completed the well known European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) 2 year course on rheumatic diseases.

He then continued his time a consultant physician and a rheumatologist as well as lecturer in Bloemfontein, gaining further experience in academic medicine for which he has a great love of. Since then, he has spread his wings to the beautiful area he now calls home.

Dr Carter has further authored and co-authored numerous publications and is a member of the South African Rheumatism and Arthritis Association (SARAA) and is part of the young rheumatologists forum within this society.

Through SARAA he is also registered under the biologics registry and has been involved in the steering committee for development of  management recommendations of rheumatic diseases in South Africa.

Dr Carter has a passion for patient care and evidence based medicine practices as well as medical education. He is a kind and caring clinician who is willing to go the extra mile for patients.

He has particular interests in inflammatory arthritis, various auto-immune connective tissue diseases and vasculitis.
